Workshop 2 : Basics you should know to start with Robotics II

Under the workshop series; "Basics you should know to start with Robotics", the CSE Robotics club was able to successfully conduct the second and also the final workshop. The audience (Level 1 students of Department of Computer Science and Engineering) had a basic knowledge on micro-controllers, circuit design and simulating software and software used for PIC programming after following our first workshop. In our second session we revised important things we discussed at first workshop and introduced another set of areas and techniques that are really useful in building robots.

Students were able to know mainly about following areas by following this workshop.

  • Using sensors to get details from the environment
  • Analogue to digital converters
  • Handling movements with motors, etc
  • More programming aspects (Interrupts, Using EEPROM, PWM)
  • How to design PCB (Printed Circuit Board) using software
  • How to prepare your own PCB

Finally we should thank the Mr. Charith Chiraranjan, the coordinator of the module; Engineering Skills Development, who gave us the opportunity to conduct this workshop series with proper guidance and support.

Workshop 1 : Basics you should know to start with Robotics I

Nowadays Robotics has become a prominent area in modern technology in most of the countries. This field overlaps many fields like  electronics, computer science, mechanics, artificial intelligence, etc. Robots are intelligent machines which can take the place of humans. As CSE students we can contribute for robotics easily with the help of knowledge in order to help human beings and to develop the country with use use of robots.

This is the very first workshop conducted by the CSE Robotics club. We aimed the students in the second semester of CSE department, in order to help them to start up with the project given under Engineering Skills Development.

Under this workshop, we have mainly focused on the following areas.

  • Importance of robotics and usable applications.
  • Introduction to programmable modules.
  • How to program a PIC to get desired outputs.
  • Using software for design and simulation purposes.

Software used:

ISIS Professional
CCS compiler
PIC Simulator
PIC 18 Simulator

The workshop was conducted by the members of CSE Robotics club:
